Dear Parents

Thank you 3J for your fabulous assembly this morning which gave us a real insight into you as individuals and as members of 3J. You spoke very eloquently about your individual talents with many of you giving us a demonstration or performance. What a talented class you are! There were activities ranging from photography and gymnastics to bouncing on a pogo stick! I really enjoyed watching your individual characters shine through and seeing just how talented you are. Thank you 3J and thank you Mrs Jones for a brilliant assembly on your last day at Highfield before embarking on your Maternity Leave. 3J, you really gave Mrs Jones an excellent send off! Mr Sheppeck

Another Sporting Star Comes to Highfield!

Our sporting celebrations continued on Thursday with the visit of Natalie Panagarry who plays Netball National League 1 for Loughborough. She worked with groups throughout the school during their Games, PE and Activity sessions. The children really enjoyed being coached and being offered advice by one of the top netballers in the country. What made it even more special was the fact that she used to come to Highfield! We took lots of photographs of Natalie and the children in action on the day which will be published on Facebook over the weekend.

Cricket and Rounders at Bridgewater School

Sixteen children travelled to Bridgewater School in Manchester to play Cricket and Rounders on Wednesday. The cricket was played inside and the boys found it hard to adapt to how fast the game is when played inside. Bridgewater capitalised on this and scored 71 runs off just eight overs. After a team talk, the boys started to think more carefully about tactics and after a good spell of bowling from Oliver and Aditya, and good catches from Alexander, we managed to restrict the opposition to only ten runs off the second eight overs. The boys batted well, punishing bad ball and playing the ball into the gaps for easy runs. They scored 107 off their overs winning the game comfortably. Congratulations to our boys who successfully turned this game around after a very uncertain start.

On Wednesday, we also had our first Rounders match against Bridgewater School. The girls were nervous as we were first to bat in the glorious sunshine. Bridgewater fielded the ball well in the first game, getting five Highfield players out. However, we clinched a victory by 5 rounders to 4.5. In the second match, the girls communicated well in the field and there was some fantastic batting. We also won the second match by 8 rounders to 5. Well done to all the girls on their first Rounders victory! Miss McShane.

Goodbye!

Mr and Mrs McGrath leave us today after six and a half years of fantastic service to the school. The whole school community will miss the quality of their food, the wonderful array of meals that they prepared each day and their kindness to us all. I would like to thank them both, on behalf of everybody, for their commitment and hard work at the school and we wish them both the best of luck in their new venture.

Mrs Crane also leaves today after eleven years’ service to the school. Mrs Crane has been very dedicated, reliable and a great support to Mrs McGrath. She is a big favourite with children and staff alike and she will be greatly missed. I would like to thank her for her service to Highfield and we wish her a very enjoyable retirement.

Goodbye and Hello!

Mrs Jones is leaving today to begin her Maternity Leave. I would like to thank her for all her hard work in 3J this year and we offer her our very best wishes for the coming weeks.

I would like to welcome back Mrs Morrice from her Maternity Leave. She will now take over in 3J until the end of the academic year.

Well done Manavi - a fantastic achievement!

We went digital in Year 5 at the end of last term as we recorded the pupils reading their favourite pieces of creative writing. πŸŽ™ 🎚

After they had made the recordings, the class then created a QR code for each and then put these together with the narrator's picture, ready for them to be listened to at our Open Day.

The class loved being part of this process and learning how to make their work digital, and the parents really enjoyed listening to their children’s stories. πŸ“– Great work Year 5! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Photos from Highfield Priory School's post
