Dear Parents

RD Assembly

Well done to our wonderful Reception this morning for a brilliant assembly. The confidence and composure that you showed in front of so many people was quite incredible. You told us about how busy you have been this year and all the wonderful activities you have done throughout the year and also what you have learnt. You told us about your number lessons and counting up to 100 in tens and how on Thursdays you learnt your letter sounds. You also talked about your trips to the Library, Music Room and PE lessons. I especially enjoyed your song at the end, ‘Boogie Bugs’! Your dance moves and lyrics have stayed with me all day! Thank you Reception, and Mrs Diston for organising the assembly.

NCT Results

Congratulations to our fantastic Year Six who achieved an impressive set of National Curriculum Test results. You have certainly worked hard during your time at Highfield and you deserve the high level of attainment you have reached. A big thank you to Mrs Hewins, Mrs Haythornthwaite, your class teachers and of course your parents for their support.

The following table illustrates the number of pupils achieving the expected standard:

Bake-Off

Thank you to all the children and parents who baked cakes for Monday’s Bake-Off and cake sale. We had a wonderful range of cakes from a tree of apples which had every individual teachers name on to a cake in the exact Highfield uniform. There was also a wide range of bakes from fruit cakes through to brownies and shortbread. The children were spoilt for choice! The school managed to raise over £300 for the school charities chosen by the children earlier in the year.

Best taste: Nandini and Naina and Isabelle

Reception Visit the Sealife Centre

Reception visited the Sealife Centre in Blackpool last week. The trip was arranged because of the children’s interest in the ‘Sea and Oceans’ topic this year in Reception. They have been doing lots of work in class, including looking at the books ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ and ‘Sharing a Shell’. The day started with a guided tour where the children learnt about all the fish in the centre. They thoroughly enjoyed the vist which really helped to bring the subject to life for them and reinforced what they have been discussing in class. Below are just a few of the sentences written by the children after the trip.

I liked the shell that squirted me. Luca

We went to the Blackpool Sealife Centre. I had fun. I liked the sea horses. We also held a crab shell. It was because I went in the sea cave. Naina

I liked the sharks and the seahorses. Avni

I liked the sharks and the jellyfish. Aarnav

Summer Fair

The Summer Fair is on Sunday and our PTA have been working tirelessly to make sure that there is a wonderful range of activities and fun for the whole family. Monkhouses will be attending and will be based in the Sports Hall. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Under 11 Cricket

The last match of the season took place on Thursday evening against Westholme. The boys did particularly well in every aspect of the game and have made a marked improvement in their technique over the season as a whole. We won one match and lost the other. I hope all the boys carry on practising during the holidays.

Year 4 Rounders

The girls played Oakhill on Thursday and really worked hard as a team, communicating well in the field and encouraging each other throughout. After a very close contest, Oakhill won by 18 rounders to 131/2. Congratulations to all the girls who took part.

Sports Clubs

All sports clubs have now finished for the Summer term.

HPPTA News

Summer Fair

Please don't forget our Summer Fair on Sunday 9th 1pm – 4pm. We are hoping for some sunshine and it promises to be a super day. Please also return any outstanding raffle money and ticket stubs to school as soon as possible. For any budding bakers out there, the cake stall will happily accept donations on the day.

Refreshments - Year 6 Performance

We are also looking for helpers to serve Refreshments at the Year 6 performances next week. Tradition dictates that Infant parents provide those at Junior performances and vice versa, the aim being that all parents can relax and enjoy the show when their child is in it. If any Infant parents could assist on Tuesday 11th (when the performance will start at 2pm) or on Wednesday 12th when the performance starts at 6pm, we would be most grateful.  Help is also required to set up before. If you can assist, please contact the PTA e-mail highfieldpta@outlook.com

Car Park

It has been in the news recently that parents who leave their car engines running in the school car park while waiting to collect their children are inadvertently polluting their child’s play area. Please could you be aware of this at drop-off and pick-up and turn engines off as soon as possible. Many thanks.
