Dear Parents

Harvest Festival

Thank you 4S for leading our Harvest Assembly today. I enjoyed the comedy and the dispute between the farmer and the animals over who contributes the most on the farm, emphasising the importance of Mother Nature and teamwork. Thank you also to Key Stage 1 who sang their Harvest Song so beautifully. Pre-School and Reception brought up their food packages during the Assembly which have been taken to Bethany House by our Year 5 pupils. A brilliant start to our Class Assemblies of the year. Well done. Thank you to all parents for the donations, we raised over £340 for Water Aid.

Year 5 visit to Bethany House

Year 5 travelled up to Bethany House this morning to take our Harvest parcels and sing Harvest songs to the residents. As always, the residents were delighted to see us, joining in with the songs, tapping feet and fingers. The children then spent time chatting with the residents: talking about their daily lives, sharing news about their families and memories from the past. The smiles, laughter and constant chatter in the room was very rewarding to see. The residents and children were certainly uplifted by the experience and the children were discussing the conversations they had had all the way back to school.

Open Morning

Open Morning will take place between 9am and 12noon next Thursday. If you have any family or friends who would like to come to school to celebrate your children’s achievements and look at the work already completed this term, please let them know. It is a great opportunity to see the school in action. We will also be Tweeting and Facebooking the event, so please feel free to ‘like’ and ‘re-tweet’ the news to others. Many thanks for your continued support.

Out and About With 2M

2M were raring to go on Tuesday morning, excitedly taking part in an introduction to shapes lesson using the whiteboard. I was very impressed by their level of focus and their eagerness to come up in groups to answer questions on the board. Arianna, Tim and Oliver were first and had to select a shape on the interactive program with two equal sides. After a brief discussion, they selected the correct shape. Yaamini and Hasan, followed by Danial and Haaris, both had to select a shape which was a third shaded. Both groups examined the shapes carefully before making the right choice. Mr Murray then produced a huge mystery suitcase with a big question mark on it! He described a shape that had six faces and was three dimensional. The children discussed the problem with their talking partners. Hasan said it was a solid shape and Haaris said it was a square cube. Sam was also able to answer that the shape had eight vertices. The next set of questions were based around the room. Jack managed to pick out a 2D shape with one continuous side, ‘The clock is a circle he said with confidence.’ Genevieve managed to find a picture of a hexagon in response to the quest for a six sided, 2D shape in the room. The children then returned to their seats to look at a numeracy challenge booklet. Mr Murray introduced each challenge to check for understanding. The children all counted the sides of the first shape on the page. Rohan and Danial both knew it was a pentagon with five sides; Sara could tell the difference between a square and a rectangle saying all the sides are the same or different; Zorain looked carefully at the next shape and said it was a triangle with three sides. As I left the class, the children started the last challenge which was to draw an example of each shape. Talia was off first, finding a ruler and a pencil to complete the task. The children’s knowledge was excellent with every child keen to show what they knew. A super start to Year 2! Well done!

With Christmas coming you could organise some presents at the same time as organising your family! Many thanks, as always, for your support. HPPTA

Highfield Football News

On Wednesday, we hosted two teams from Oakhill on our all-weather pitch. The boys worked really hard in both matches, defending well and taking advantage of opportunities that came their way. Although we lost both games, the boys showed a lot of promise with many playing for the first time this year. This fixture ensured that all the boys in Years 5 and 6 have now represented their school at Football this term.

Our Year 4 boys travelled to Westholme on Wednesday and played with lots of determination and skill. They really took the game to the opponents with the final score being 4-0 to Highfield. Thank you Mr Turner for running both matches.

On Thursday, a team of Under 11 boys took part in the Kids’ Club Football Championship. They were very competitive throughout the tournament showing great determination especially in the last game where they earned a hard fought draw. Well done to all the boys who have played for school this week. It was great to see so many of you in action.

The latest from Highfield Priory

We enjoyed a wonderful Musical Assembly to close the term last week! 🎻 🎹 🎷

Children from both key stages performed in front of the school and their parents with the progress that the children had made clear to hear. It was also lovely to witness the first performances from some of our pupils. 🙂

Each of the instrumental groups were represented with the music teachers on hand to support their pupils. A big well done to all the pupils involved and we look forward to our final musical assembly later on in the summer term! 🎼 🎼Photos from Highfield Priory School's post
