Getting Ready For School

As our Nursery School children approach their third birthday, we prepare them for their next move. We always respond to the individual needs and inclinations of each child and so, in some cases, they may move before their third birthday and with others we may wait a little longer until we feel they are ready for this next step on their Highfield journey. Whilst still in our Nursery School, the children will visit Pre-School and spend time with the Pre-School teacher and with our Pre-School Nursery Nurse. They will become familiar with their new surroundings and new adults before they make the move into Pre-School.

Our Early Years and Foundation Stage Coordinator, Miss Halstead, is a Lead Practitioner within Lancashire and a fully qualified teacher.

Pre-School is situated in the Main School building (which feels very grown-up!) and its play area is shared with our Nursery School.

"The overall effectiveness of the Early Years provision is outstanding. Across the age range, children make excellent progress from their starting points; they are well prepared for the next stage of their education and by the end of the EYFS they are ready for school."

Compliance Inspection, 2016

All our EYFS staff are Paediatric First Aid trained and, with the exception of apprentices, are qualified at Level 3 and above.

Highfield Priory School added 7 new photos.

As part of Year 5's History Topic, the children have been using a green screen app to stand in front of key Tudor figures and characters to create a postcard image. They have then been eagerly explaining all their favourite parts of the topic on the reverse. Expect to see a Tudor postcard coming your way soon!

We all really enjoyed 6H's Assembly on Friday about being a trustworthy person and trusting others. We particularly enjoyed the way they used the story from the film ‘Finding Nemo’ and the story of Samson (in rhyme) from The Bible to illustrate their important message. Thank you Mrs Haythornthwaite for arranging this thought-provoking assembly and well done, 6H!
