Dear Parents
Another very busy and successful week at Highfield with the children not just experiencing a range of different activities but also showing how talented they are! On Wednesday, we had over one hundred pupils out of school rehearsing at The Charter Theatre and competing in the Beech House Cross Country Event. The week concluded with a wonderful assembly by Year 1 which focused on their PSHE topic for this term: Bullying. You really enjoyed taking centre stage and delivered your words superbly. I especially enjoyed the story about the Ugly Duckling which conveyed your message beautifully. Well done Year 1 and thank you to Mrs Wilson for arranging the assembly with the support of Mrs Pritchard and Miss Warburton.
Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations
There was only one show in town on Thursday night and that was, ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’! Ninety-six pupils, from Reception through to Year 6, wowed the audience with their stage presence and a performance which would have been impressive from children twice their age! The dancers performed a range of dances from a sailors’ jig to ballet dancing spies to clowns and tumblers to street dancing aliens to classical ballet to name but a few! All the dances were integrated seamlessly into the play. The Year 4 actors were incredible and not at all fazed by acting on one of the largest stages in the North West in front of over 250 people. It is hard to believe that they are only eight and nine years old. It was an amazing achievement considering they have just had a few full run-throughs and rehearsed in their thirty minute HPSED and Dance lessons once a week. A big thank you to all the staff who helped out, to Mrs Shackleton for her support and provision of props and of course to Mrs Duke and Miss Burns, our amazing directors. West End here we come!
Beech House Cross Country
Our Under 10s travelled to Beech House on Wednesday to compete against schools from across the north of the country. The conditions were good, considering the recent weather and the sun was out! The children walked the course before they started; getting to grips with the rough terrain and the steep finish. Katie H lost her shoe which made everyone make sure their shoes were tightly fastened on before the real race began. There were over 100 runners in the girls’ and boys’ events. In the Boys’ race, our top three finishers were: Oliver G 3rd, Oliver C 15th and Alexander 16th. In the Girls’ race, Olivia D came 8th, Katie R came 10th and Katie H was 14th. All our runners did exceptionally well and we are yet to hear our final finishing position. A big thank you to Mrs Rimmer, Mrs Gordon and Mrs Simmonite for transporting the children to the event and to all the supporters there.

Pre-School Comes Alive With Creepy Crawlies
The Creepy Crawlie roadshow visited Pre-School on Wednesday. The children were given the chance to touch, stroke and hold creatures including Colin the cockroach and Thorny the stick insect. Some very brave children even had a snake around their neck! The children were all very confident and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. There will be photographs on the website so do please take a look!
Chess
Ben, Harry, Dev and John from Year 6 and Jacob, Year 5 all represented school in the EPSCA competition against a number of other schools in the region on Saturday. We achieved 12.5 points out of a possible 25 which meant we were placed 5th overall. The children will now move on to the County Individual Championships which will be held in Lancaster this weekend.

Security and Dropping-Off
Please could you make sure that you leave the school site as soon as possible after drop-off so we can secure it. If the bell has gone and you have a quick message for a member of staff, please hand it in to the office. Or, if it is easier, send an email to the office for the teacher’s attention or write in your child’s homework diary. If you need to talk to your child’s teacher at length, please arrange a meeting through the office. Many thanks for your support.
