Year 2 Trip to Queen Street Mill
Last week, our Year 2 class visited Queen Street Mill in Burnley. Before we started, we had to make a line of boys and a line of girls, including the adults. The school mistress then checked all our hands to make sure they were clean. Ms Eccles got into trouble for wearing nail polish and Mrs Hayes was told off for wearing jewellery! We then followed Ma’am to the classroom where she told us all about life in a Victorian school. We even got to write on Victorian slates! After the school visit, Ma’am showed us the weaving mill and told us all about the jobs they would do. We saw the actual weaving looms they used and got to see and hear one working. It was incredibly loud! Our favourite job was that of a tackler who was kept busy keeping all the looms working.
Year 5 Trip to Jodrell Bank
Our Year 5 classes travelled to Jodrell Bank this week, to learn all about their revolutionary scientific discoveries and amazing feats of engineering. We particularly enjoyed viewing the Lovell Telescope, which took them 5 years to build, while our guide explained how this differed from a regular telescope. We then explored the space dome and learnt some interesting facts about space. Did you know that if you lived on Neptune, you would never have a birthday? We had an incredible day of learning fascinating facts, made even better by the glorious weather!
Year 5 and 3 Production of ‘A Letter to the Trenches’
On Wednesday evening, our talented Year 5 and Year 3 classes took to the stage for their moving performance of ‘A Letter to the Trenches’. Every performer showed incredible confidence, commanding the stage in front of a large audience. All the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience, working together to create a masterpiece for everyone to enjoy. It will be a memory they will cherish for many years to come. Congratulations to everyone who took part and thank you to: our Directors, Mrs Jones and Miss Macklam; our lighting technician, Mr Drake; and all the staff involved. Well done!
Lamb Visit
This week, Miss Burns’ lambs visited our Infant classes. It was lovely to see the children petting and feeding the lambs with such care and attention. How lucky we are to be visited by such interesting guests, and we got to learn all about their life on the farm!
Nursery Build
As you may have noticed during pick up and drop off, our new Nursery building is rising up from the ashes with the steel work now in place! Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as our new Nursery starts to take shape. We will continue to ensure we minimise the disruption as much as possible during pick-up and drop-off times.

Sports News
Athletics at UCLan
Our Year 5 and 6 classes have been enjoying their athletics training sessions at UCLan, where they are able to develop their skills and push themselves further using professional facilities. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore a range of athletics activities and find their passion. We are looking forward to training here for the rest of the term, especially in the Summer sun!
Rounders V AKS
This week we hosted AKS for an afternoon of U11 and U10 rounders matches. The girls all played brilliantly, showing superb teamwork and enthusiasm. We played two longer matches with a final speed match, giving all the players the chance to hone their skills as both batters and fielders. Our outstanding striking and catching led to our victory in several matches, with the girls showing incredible support to each other and representing Highfield impeccably on and off the field. A huge thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to support; it was a fantastic afternoon of sport!
Cricket V AKS
The Year 6 boys travelled to AKS on Wednesday to play Kwik Cricket. It was a lovely afternoon and perfect conditions for cricket. The boys batted first and amassed a score of 87 off their allotted overs. They managed to protect their wickets and score a few boundaries towards the end of the innings which really helped the score. AKS started well in their innings and, although we struggled with our accuracy when bowling, we really made up for it in the field, taking a number of catches and stumpings. With the pressure building on AKS, Raj managed to take a catch off his bowling in the last over to seal the victory by 11 runs. Toby was nominated player of the match by the opposition for a solid batting performance and his performance as wicket keeper. Well done to all the boys who took part.
