Dear Parents

Year 6 Leavers Assembly

Our Year 6s enjoyed a morning of reflection, reminising on their memories made at Highfield and their growth since they started their journey with us. The Year 6 parents watched with pride as they talked about their aspirations for the future. To end an emotional assembly, we watched a video highlighting their time at Highfield, and everything they have experienced and achieved. We are all extremely proud of everyone in Year 6 and look forward to hearing about your success in the future!

Celebration Assembly

Our children enjoyed celebrating their achievements during their final Celebration Assembly of the academic year. It was wonderful to see our talented pupils being recognised for their achievements in such a wide range of activities. Everyone was smiling and excited to share stories about their achievements. It was lovely to watch the pride emanating from them, not just for their own achievements, but for their peers’ as well. A big thank you to Mrs Prince for organising this assembly.

HPPTA Summer Fayre

A big thank you to everyone who came to support Sunday’s Summer Fayre. It was great to see so many children and parents enjoying themselves and to see so many past pupils coming back to visit and catch up with everyone! A big thank you to staff and parents who helped on stalls and made all the fabulous food and cakes, we couldn’t do it without you! There are too many people to name you all individually in this newsletter, but please know that all your time and hard work truly is appreciated, especially by the children. Despite traffic issues for a second year the fayre was well attended and we made slightly more than last year, even with the inflatables being unable to attend as they were stuck on the M6!  We are delighted to share with you that this year the total collections been over £2,300. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Desai and his wife Mrs Desai for all their help and support over the many years their children have been at Highfield.  Mr Desai will stand down as treasurer of the PTFA this year and he has done a phenomenal job.  Mrs Desai has also been a previous chair of the PTFA and we are very sad to lose them as their youngest daughter moves on to Year 7.

We would like to welcome new parents to join us for next year’s events.  Dates of meetings for the Autumn Term will be given in advance in the school calendar which will be distributed at the end of term, so please pop these in your diary.

Rehearsals for Y6 Production

Our preparations for the light hearted pantomime ‘A Funny Thing That Happenned on the Way to Camelot’, are well underway. Our year 6 classes and school choir are all excited to perform. Tickets are now on sale in the school office, £2.50 each. Performances are on Tuesday 9th July at 2pm and on Thursday 11th July at 6pm.

Resilient Rhinos

Last week as part of our Wellbeing Wednesdays the children from Reception to Year 6 took part in a special session. The theme was resilient rhinos and was a presentation from Lunchbowl network. We covered many aspects of wellbeing including, self-awareness, purpose and positive relationships. Following the presentation the children had the opportunity to buy a small rhino model to remind them about being resilient when facing challenges. This small purchase also helped them to consider t he wellbeing of other children as each rhino sold provided 5 meals for children in Nairobi through Lunchbowl. Thank you very much to all who took part, we have raised over £300 towards meals.

Highfield Priory Bake-Off

The children are very excited for the Highfield Priory Bake-Off on Monday 15th July. The theme chosen by the children is Summer and all funds raised will be donated to the School Charity ‘Make A Wish’. Please could all cakes be brought into School on Monday 15th July, with a list of ingredients and ensure no nuts are used. Children may bring up to £4, preferably in coins, to spend on cakes during the day.

Sports News

Pre-School Sports Morning

Last Thursday saw our final sports day of the year, with our youngest competitors; Pre-School. The children had been practicing the events for weeks in preparation for their first Sports Day! As excitement filled the sports hall, on a very wet summers day, our children were eager to show off their skills to their families. We even had families travelling from abroad! The children competed in hurdles, egg and spoon races, sack races, javelin throws, bean bag throws and bean bag balances. The blue and yellow teams finished their sports morning with a team relay and sprints. It was a great event, filled with laughter and cheers, with the Pre-School children demonstrating wonderful team spirit. Each child was rewarded with a medal and ice lolly for all of their hard work.

The latest from Highfield Priory

We are very proud of Year 5's Isabella, who completed a massive 12-hour day of tennis to raise money for Kids Vs Cancer last Friday! 🎾 🎾

Starting at 9am and finishing at 9pm, she played with a multitude of youth tennis players, George Morgan (an ex professional tennis player) and even Sir Lindsay Hoyle who popped in to show support.

With cash donations still to be put in, she has currently raised just under £1,000 for children battling cancer.

This fantastic, charitable effort was rewarded with a signed t-shirt from Jack Draper, currently performing very well in the US Open. Well done Isabella - an incredible achievement! 🙂 🙂We are very proud of Year 5's Isabella, who completed a massive 12-hour day of tennis to raise money for Kids Vs Cancer last Friday! 🎾 🎾
