Dear Parents
Harvest Festival
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Harvest Festival today. We received a huge amount of food that will be vital to, and greatly appreciated by, local charities and businesses. We also raised money which will be donated to WaterAid. Class 6HM took some of our Harvest donations along to Bethany House –our local residential home- and entertained the residents with their Harvest songs before spending time chatting with the ladies and gentlemen. The children were wonderful conversationalists and showed a real interest in the residents. They can’t wait to visit them again later in year. We were sad to say goodbye but so proud of our Year 6 children and the joy that they had so evidently brought to others.
2E Assembly
Thank you very much to 2E who taught us all about the Harvest Festival and why we celebrate it. It was an interesting assembly with a wonderful song at the end. The confidence and command of the stage, demonstrated by the whole class, was very impressive. Thank you to Ms Eccles and Mrs Hayes and well done 2E!
Scholastic Book Fair
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair was a great success. It was lovely to see such a buzz of excitement as so many children and parents visited to choose books, and other book-related items. Due to the high number of sales, we managed to raise £566 to spend on books for the school. This money will help to buy new books for each class library, so a big thank you to you all for your support again this year.
Out and About with Year 3
3R have settled well into this academic year. They are enjoying learning about the desert in Geography and they wrote some fantastic stories entitled, 'The Disastrous Day Out'. We have started reading, 'The Worst Witch' and we are looking forward to reading more about Mildred Hubble in time for Halloween!
Open Morning
Thank you to everyone who has helped to distribute leaflets. If you need any more please contact the school office. Thank you for your support and for helping Highfield to continue to build on its success.
Early Years
Over the summer, our Early Years building has come on in leaps and bounds as we move onto the final phase of construction. We are eager to welcome our children into their new state of the art facility. The new building will contain areas for both Nursery and Preschool as well as a new outdoor area. We look forward to welcoming new children into our community when it opens in January.
Front Lawn Caution
Please could all pupils keep off the front lawn at the start and end of the day. It has very steep banks which lead directly onto the concrete, and the car park is also always busy at the start and end of the day.
Sports
Preston Schools Football Tournament
Some of our Highfield boys visited Play Football this week in the first competitive football outing of the year. An enthusiastic and skilful Highfield team demonstrated clinical finishing and creative attacking play to earn themselves 2 victories across 5 impressive matches. With some incredible goalkeeping and defiant defensive performances, Highfield was unfortunate not to continue through to the semi-finals but left the venue having made us all proud! Overall Highfield played well against some strong teams, showing signs of a positive season ahead.
Netball V Rossall
The sun was shining for a lovely afternoon of Netball at Highfield. Every girl in Years 5 and 6 took part in a match, demonstrating all the skills they have learnt in practice. We are very excited to see the girls continue to develop throughout the season. Well played to all the girls, and thank you to all the parents who came to support; it was lovely to see!
Football V Rossall
All the boys in Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at Rossall yesterday. Thirty boys were in action across three pitches. They played really well in their first competitive match of the season. The effort and commitment in defence and attack was excellent. They showed lots of promise for future matches and were very keen on Thursday to train in preparation for their next game.
Sedbergh X Country
Well done to all the runners who ran in the Sedbergh Prep invitational x country event. It was a gorgeous sunny day not typical x country weather! All the runners showed great determination on a very tough hilly long course. They showed great teamwork cheering each other on and the speed the boys showed at the finish was effective overtaking in the final 50metres. A special mention must go to Amelie in year 5 who finished in 21st position out of 100 plus runners, including year 6 girls. This was an outstanding achievement. Thank you to the parents that came to support.
