Dear Parents
Musical Assembly
Last Friday, we had our first Musical Assembly of the year. It was a wonderful morning for the children where they could showcase their musical talent on a range of instruments. We enjoyed pieces performed on flutes, trumpets, pianos and guitars as well as a wonderful performance from our school choir. For some of our musicians, this was their first performance, although with their confidence and stage presence, you really couldn’t tell! We look forward to more Musical Assemblies this year with the support of our talented peripatetic music teachers. Thank you to all our musicians for a wonderful morning’s entertainment.
Lancashire Chess Association
Highfield Priory hosted a Lancashire Chess Association competition at the beginning of the month. It was a huge success, with 65 children competing in 5 different groups: Tiny Pawns, Pawns, Knights, Bishops and Rooks. Each child played 7 games with some very competitive and skilful matches. 10 pupils from Highfield, and even 3 former pupils, attended. We can’t wait for the next event! Thank you to Mr Greenwood for organising a great day.
Infants Nativity
The ‘Fire Side Nativity’ performances took the school by storm! Our Year 2 performers acted incredibly well, learning so many lines and projecting their voices beautifully across the sports hall. Reception and Year 1 sang magnificently, complemented by some fabulous choreography from Miss Burns’ dancers. It was wonderful to see our Infants working together to create such a memorable performance. A big thank you to Ms Eccles, Mrs Street and all the staff involved in the production.
Preschool Christmas Show
The Preschool Christmas Show was a magical celebration filled with festive cheer! Our talented Preschool children dazzled the audience by dressing up as elves, angels, snowmen, Father Christmas and reindeer. They performed their dances brilliantly, with confidence and energy, impressing all the parents and grandparents who attended. A huge thank you to Miss Burns for her hard work in teaching the children their dances during the lessons. It was a fantastic performance that brought smiles and joy to everyone! Thank you to our Year 6 readers, Eliza and Zarlala for their wonderful part in the show.
PTA Christmas Party
A big thank you to Ms Eccles and our amazing PTA for our wonderful Christmas Party Day. The day was filled with fun activities, a disco and even a visit from Father Christmas! It was lovely to see so many festive outfits and Christmas jumpers throughout the school, and to hear laughter filling the corridors. Thank you to all the parents who helped to organise the activities and presents for all the children. It was a truly magical day!
New Nursery and Preschool Opening
Following the arson attack in October 2022, Highfield Priory School is delighted to announce the official re-opening of the Nursery and Preschool which will take place on Friday 31st January. We are honoured to have the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire officially opening the new building. Present parents and prospective parents are welcome to come and visit the new facility between 2.00pm and 4.30pm on that day. A link to confirm your attendance will be send via ParentMail next week and available to share online. The Nursery children will be moving in earlier in the month.
Sports
Netball V Rossall
Well done to the Year 4 girls who travelled to Rossall last week to play in their first ever school Netball match. The girls played lots of netball and improved with every quarter. They had a few chances to score but unfortunately the ball struggled to go in the net. We are very proud of the girls and look forward to working with them to develop their netball skills over the coming years. Thank you also to Rossall School for a super lunch afterwards!
Football V Rossall
Last Wednesday, December 4th, the Year 4 boys set off to compete against Rossall School in a football match. It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to apply the skills they've been learning in their Games lessons in a competitive setting. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with each team winning one game, making it a fair result. A big thank you to Rossall School for their warm hospitality, especially the delicious lunch provided afterwards!
Swimming Gala at SMH
At the end of November, 18 Year 5 and 6 swimmers travelled to SMH to compete in a swimming gala. It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to represent Highfield in lots of individual and team relay races. Each child swam in at least 3 events and produced some amazing performances. It was fantastic to see the progress the children have made and we can’t wait to see this continue. Well done and thank you to all the parents who came along to support.
