Dear Parents

Staff News

Miss Halstead will be leaving Highfield Priory School at Easter after twenty years of dedicated service to take up a position with the Civil Service. We will look forward to celebrating her time with us at the end of this term.

Mrs Morrice will be taking over the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead after the Easter holiday.

World Book Day

This week saw our annual World Book Day, with children and staff dressed as a wide range of characters from their favourite books. It was a real celebration of literature. It was great to

see the children telling each other about the characters they were dressed as and finding out more about the books they come from. I hope it will inspire our children to pick up a book and learn about a new character they have seen today.

Mastermind Final

This year’s final was one of the closest we have ever had, with some brilliant contestants who we are all very proud of. Many congratulations to Lilia, who is our 2025 winner, and also to Amelie, Will, Aryana and Yusra for answering so many questions correctly.

Musical Assembly

Today was our second Musical Assembly of the year, with a range of instruments and a variety of musical styles. We had breath-taking performances with flutes, mesmerising melodies on piano, bold pieces played with brass, eccentric guitar performances and a rockstar performance on the drums! Well done to all the musicians who gave polished performances to the rest of the school.

Fun in Nursery

We created some hubble and bubble in Nursery last week as we mixed together some aromatic petal potions! It was a great chance to practice our hand-eye co-ordination skills as well as develop our language in relation to quantities and measurement. We also enjoyed a massive game of hide and seek in Forest School, using the nature around us to help create

secret hiding places! As well as being lots of fun, the game also helped develop our counting and observational skills as well as our physical development. We love learning in Nursery!

Sports

Chess V OLSE

Last week we played our second chess fixture of the term against Our Ladies St Edwards. There were 17 games played at the same time, all graded on ability. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to challenge themselves against players from another school. There was a lovely atmosphere in the room with many of the children recognising each other from chess congresses and county training. We look forward to a return match later in the Term.

Preston Dance Competition

On 26th of February, all the Year 5 and 6 Street Dance Troupe travelled to Fulwood Academy to compete in the Preston Primary Dance Competition. The theme was ‘AI’ or ‘The Next Big Invention’. With 17 schools competing altogether, we enjoyed watching all of the performances. We especially enjoyed the experience of performing on stage in a competition. Thank you to Miss Burns and Miss Alcock for choreographing our amazing dance.  We came 5th out of 17 schools, well done girls!

Preston Swimming Gala

A small swimming team travelled to West View for the Preston Schools Swimming Gala. Highfield gained some good results with Lilia and Freddie qualifying for the individual finals, both coming third and gaining medals. The Highfield team competed with some very focused swims and great change overs in the medley and freestyle relay. Well done to all.

Rugby

On Wednesday, a group of boys from Year 5 and 6 travelled to Rossall for their annual sevens tournament. There were 16 Teams taking part from across the country, including a team from Wales. It was excellent weather for rugby with the sun shining allowing for running rugby. The boys acquitted themselves very well, scoring lots of tries after several phases of team play. They also showed improvement in defense with boys tackling well and defending their line with real determination. The boys certainly learnt a lot from the multiple game format, and it should stand them in good stead for their final game against AKS next week. Thank you to Rossall for organising the event.

Building Strength and Individuality

The latest from Highfield Priory

Children enjoyed a croissant and a drink with their mummies and family members.

The children finished the breakfast by surprising everyone with a song with actions called, 'I love you' ❤️

There were smiles and hugs all around!

Well done Reception.Photos from Highfield Priory School and Nursery's post
