Dear Parents

1W Class Assembly

The Year 1 children presented their RE assembly last week, which was about special books. They told us what they had learned about the Quran, Torah and Bible. They then acted out the story of Noah’s Ark as this story is in all 3 books. Their stage presence and confidence was exceptional and both Mrs Wilson and Mrs Davidson are extremely proud.

3R Class Assembly

Year 3 focused on the tradition of Mothering Sunday for their class assembly this week and they explained that in the UK, we call it Mothering Sunday as it takes place on the 4th Sunday of Lent, however, it is celebrated around the world on different days causing its name to adapt to Mother’s Day. Year 3 also taught us about some of the traditions from countries around the world compared to the traditions here in the UK. Did you know, Mothering Sunday traditions nearly ceased in the UK but were revived after WW2 because the American Servicemen stationed here were celebrating it? It was heartwarming to hear the children talk about why their mothers are special to them and what they will do to enjoy Mothering Sunday with them. A wonderful assembly, finished with a powerful performance of ‘Super Mums!’; thank you, Year 3!

Lancashire Fire Team Visit

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service visited our Year 2 and 6 classes to talk about fire safety and the importance of having a fire plan at home. They spoke about the dangers of playing with matches and lighters, and they taught the children what to do if their clothes catch fire. We discussed what to do if we hear the smoke alarm in our house at night. The children listened carefully as they explained the importance of getting outside safely and calling 999 or shouting from a window if we find ourselves trapped upstairs. After the talk, we went outside to look at the fire engine and the firefighters showed us where all the equipment lives. A huge thank you to the LFRS from all of Year 2 and 6!

Open Day

It’s our Open Day this weekend: Saturday, 11am – 3pm. Children from Years 5 and 6 will be providing tours on the day, sharing their experience of life at Highfield Priory School and Nursery. If you know anyone who would be interested in joining our community, please warmly invite them to attend on Saturday. If they are unable to make it, please encourage them to contact the School Office and book a tour on a weekday. As always, thank you for your ongoing support which is greatly appreciated.

Sports

Chess V Westholme

It was lovely to host Westholme last Monday for our second match of the year. There were 16 boards in action with many players having several matches. I was delighted with the development of all the players, especially those children who started this year. I would encourage all our players, and any child who is interested, to turn up to our Chess Club on a Thursday (with our Chess Coach, Mr Greenwood) and come along to the termly County Congresses (published in our newsletter). We look forward to more exciting matches in the Summer Term.

Rugby V AKS

Last Wednesday was our last Rugby match of the season against AKS. The boys played three matches at Grasshoppers and played highly competitive rugby, resulting in many team tries for Highfield. It was a great performance across all three teams, and a fitting end to the season. I look forward to hearing how our Year 6 players do at Secondary School and can’t wait to see our Year 5 players build on this performance next year.

Netball V Sedbergh

Well done to all the girls in Years 4 and 5 who demonstrated some excellent skill and teamwork in their fixture against Sedbergh. The Year 4 match was end to end, with goals being scored one after another. In a very close match, Highfield worked hard to earn an 11-10 victory. The Year 5 team utilised their strong defensive skills, pushing forward effectively to create some excellent attacking play down the court. These 2 matches were a great way to finish the netball season; well done girls!

Lancashire Chess

Last weekend, Billy, Veda, Will, James and Shomi travelled to Cheadle Hulme in Manchester with their Lancashire Chess teammates. With 23 children totalling the team, they all demonstrated some advanced chess manoeuvres earning a trophy and certificate each.

Building Strength and Individuality

The latest from Highfield Priory

Children enjoyed a croissant and a drink with their mummies and family members.

The children finished the breakfast by surprising everyone with a song with actions called, 'I love you' ❤️

There were smiles and hugs all around!

Well done Reception.Photos from Highfield Priory School and Nursery's post
