"The children benefit from a genuine sense of calm that permeates the setting, enabling them to move freely between activities without causing concern for their peers."

Extended Care

We know that parents often work long hours and need care for their children before and after the normal school day. Highfield, therefore, runs a system of before school and after school care during term time as well as a holiday club. The intention is to ensure that there is care, comfort and continuity at school when many parents have to work.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast club begins at 7.15am each day. Qualified staff supervise children (as young as three years of age) between 7.15am and 8.00am each morning. Children may choose from a variety of cereals, juices, fruit, yoghurts and toast. At 8.15am children join their peers in the playground and younger children are taken to the Nursery.

After School Care

After school care provides a happy, safe and caring environment until home-time. We provide an environment where the children can do their homework, play with their friends, relax and socialise. Our homework room has internet access for project work and mymaths. After school care can be booked termly in advance or on an adhoc basis.

After School Care: Ages 3-6 years

After-school care begins at 3.15pm for children aged 3-6 and is available up to 6.00pm daily. Children of these ages go to the Pre-School room where they are cared for by fully qualified staff. A variety of activities are planned. When the children arrive from their classes the first thing they do is have a snack and drink. They sit around tables with each other, chatting, eating and generally enjoying themselves. The favourite snack at the moment is the cheese sandwich.

Extended Care - Text 2

After snacks, the children either play indoors or outdoors, depending upon the weather. We encourage the children to play outdoors as much as possible, they enjoy having a noisy run-around. We find most parents are grateful for this as, by the time they get home, they have used up a lot of their energy! We have a rolling programme of activities with a wide range of resources for the children. Indoor activities include board games, colouring, card-making, story-telling and construction etc. Outdoor play involves a lot of dressing up, races, role-play, football and digging (mostly looking for worms). The children enjoy the time spent in the after school care, they are happy with their friends and surrounded by staff who are caring, warm and fun. In fact, so much so, we find they are often rather reluctant to leave.

After School Care: Ages 7-11 years

After-school care begins at 3.30pm for children aged 7-11 and is available up to 6.00pm. Children of these ages go to the homework room, where homework is supervised by a member of the teaching staff. After school care is charged depending on the length of time a child is there and the rates are as shown above, again a family discount rate is applied for those families with two or more children.

On arrival from their classrooms the children start their homework and have a sandwich snack at  4pm. Once homework is completed, the children are allowed to play outside or read a book of their choice. At 5pm the children go across to the Pre-School room and join in the activities with the younger children. On arrival they are given another snack and a drink. For the older children we hold quizzes, board-games- suited to their age- and supervised DVDs.

The latest from Highfield Priory

A big "thank you" to class 6HM, who entertained us last Friday with a very colourful BBC Children in Need Assembly!

Highlighting why this is such an important event nationwide, the pupils explained how the charity helps children in our area. They also took a look at some of the difficulties we can face in our daily lives and how lucky we are that we have our families, friends and teachers to help us overcome these obstacles.

It was wonderful to see everyone dressed up in their imaginative outfits and the school was filled with colour and fun all day!

Thank you to Mrs Haythornthwaite and Ms. Macklam for organising such an important assembly and well done to all our children, parents and staff for supporting Children in Need! 🙂 🙂

We had a fun pj day in Pre-School last week as we celebrated @BBC Children in Need!

As well as dressing up, we also enjoyed painting some colourful Pudseys as we learnt about this important charity and the work it does supporting less-fortunate young people.Photos from Highfield Priory School and Nursery's post
