Community & Partnerships
At Highfield we look to make a positive impact on the wider community. By working with a range of partners we are able to make a significant impact to the local community.
Our current partnerships are:
Bethany House
Bethany House is a purpose-built residential care home for older adults, set in landscaped grounds just outside Preston. They aims to provide a home from home, where caring and qualified staff are on hand 24 hours every day. Bethany House has a warm, friendly atmosphere, where support is provided for physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs. They recognise how important it is to maintain a lifestyle which is as active and normal as possible, and this is reflected in the range of activities offered. Bethany House has a Christian ethos, enabling residents to follow their faith in the home.
Pupils from Highfield visit Bethany House multiple times per year to sing carols and old favourites with the residents of Bethany House. After singing songs, the children enjoy getting to know the residents. Our children share their experiences of school life and have even helped to solve crossword puzzles. These visits leave both our pupils and the residents excited for their next encounter.
As part of our annual harvest celebration we donate food to Bethany House.
Charities
Water Aid
Water Aid are an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Since 1981, they’ve directly reached 28 million people with clean water; 28 million with decent toilets; and 26 million with good hygiene. Only by tackling these three essentials in ways that last can people change their lives for good. Right now, millions of children around the world don't have clean water to drink, decent toilets to use or good hygiene to protect themselves. Without these basics, breaking the cycle of poverty is just a dream.
Since September 2015 Highfield have raised £2856.95 for WaterAid.
Derian House
Derian House provides respite and end-of-life care to more than 400 babies, children and young people across the North West, working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, never closing to those in need. The care provided is free for families, but services cost £6 million to run every year with under 30% of funding we need coming from the government. Their help extends right across the family to brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents. They look after children and young people right up until their 26th birthday offering palliative care, respite stays, day care, holidays and end of life support. Derian House continues to offer transition support for those young people who leave up until their 28th birthday ensuring they have a well-established network of support in their community.

Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish exists to put medical issues to one side by empowering a child with the chance to choose a wish that's unique to them, when so much else has been decided for them because of their health needs. In doing so, a wish creates hope, happiness and memories for the whole family to cherish. Over 60,000 children in the UK have been diagnosed with a critical condition, changing their lives and the lives of their families forever. For them, the joy of childhood is brought to an abrupt end, with treatment plans, hospital visits and sleepless nights taking over. A wish revives a childhood stolen by critical illness. It brings light and joy to children and their loved ones and leaves a profound and lasting impact on all their lives. From the moment they are diagnosed, the simple pleasures of childhood and family life are replaced by worry, disruption, medical appointments, financial worries and isolation. Make-A-Wish have learnt that when a wish is granted, it inspires a child to believe that anything is possible and it helps to restore some of the childhood that they missed out on because treatment for their condition interrupted school or typical family activities.

The Year 5 children ran a stall at our summer fair to raise money, they planned all of this themselves in their P.S.H.E lessons and supervised the stall on the day. They were delighted to have raised so much money to help such a good cause.
Unicef
Unicef was set up over 75 years ago to support children after World War Two aiming to protect children during crisis. Unicef currently supports children affected by conflict across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. The number of countries in active armed conflicts is the highest in the last 30 years. Over 43 million children have been displaced globally, losing their homes and the services they rely on. They’re deprived of access to food, shelter, health care and education.
