It has been wonderful to welcome our pupils and families back to Highfield Priory for the start of a brand-new academic year.
There has already been a fantastic buzz around school, with children settling back into their classrooms, reconnecting with friends and getting to know their new teachers and routines. We have also been delighted to welcome many new pupils and families to the Highfield Priory community and we hope you are already beginning to feel at home here.
We have another busy year ahead filled with exciting lessons, trips, performances, sporting events, celebrations and plenty of memorable moments along the way. We are looking forward to sharing our pupils’ new experiences and achievements with you throughout the year.

Year 6 Step Up as Leaders
Year 6 has begun an exciting new challenge this term as our pupils embark on their brand-new Leadership Award. They have started by exploring our shared British Values through practical activities designed to encourage plenty of thinking, discussion and collaboration. The children considered how these values can be reflected in the way they work with others and the kind of leaders they aspire to become. There was plenty of laughter along the way but also some fantastic teamwork and thoughtful conversations. We look forward to following Year 6 as they develop their leadership skills throughout the year.
Artist and Composer of the Term
This term, we are excited to introduce our Artist of the Term, Camille Walala, and our Composer of the Term, Ludwig van Beethoven. Throughout the term, children will have opportunities to discover their work and develop their appreciation of both art and music.
Camille Walala is known for her bold, colourful designs, striking geometric patterns and large-scale public artworks. Her distinctive style provides plenty of inspiration for our pupils to explore colour, shape and pattern in their own creative work.
Alongside this, pupils will be introduced to the music of Beethoven, one of the most influential composers in classical music. Children will have opportunities to listen to and become familiar with some of his compositions and learn more about the musical talent behind them.
We look forward to seeing how both artists inspire our pupils throughout the term.
Early Years
Eco-School Superstars!
We are incredibly proud of our Nursery children who have achieved their Eco-Schools Award! Our youngest learners have been busy learning about the importance of looking after our planet and discovering how even the smallest actions can make a big difference. Through their Eco-Schools work, the children have developed their understanding of caring for the environment while building positive habits that we hope will stay with them as they grow. A huge well done to our Nursery children and staff for this fantastic achievement. We are very proud to see our little eco-warriors proudly displaying their certificate!
Summer Fun in Nursery
Our Nursery children have certainly been keeping busy over the Summer and into the start of the new term! They have enjoyed lots of hands-on learning and sensory exploration, using their senses to investigate different materials and discover the world around them. Activities involving filling and pouring have provided plenty of opportunities to develop coordination and concentration while also introducing mathematical language as the children explored concepts such as full, empty, more and less. Natural materials have also sparked lots of curiosity, encouraging the children to investigate different textures, shapes and properties through play.
It has also been lovely to watch them take their next steps into Preschool and welcome our new children to Nursery over the past week. They have all been busy exploring their new environment, joining in with activities and beginning to settle into life at Highfield Priory.
A busy and happy start to the new term, with lots more exploring, discovering and learning still to come!

PE & Games Kit Reminder
A quick reminder to parents to please ensure children have the correct socks and school PE bag for all PE and Games lessons.
Juniors: Children should wear maroon socks for all PE and Games lessons.
Infants: Children should wear white socks for all PE and Games lessons.
PE Bags: All children should have the appropriate school PE bag for their kit.

Other News
Welcome to our new staff
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Bray, our new Deputy Head, and Mr Manuell, our new SEND Teaching Assistant, to Highfield Priory School.
Mrs Bray brings over 13 years of teaching experience in the UK and internationally, most recently working as a Deputy Head of Primary and Designated Safeguarding Lead. She has extensive experience in school leadership, curriculum development and pupil progress.
Mr Manuell brings an impressive 31 years of experience in education, including 29 years as a primary school teacher. Outside school, Mr Manuell has also produced and directed several musical productions, including performances at the National Opera Theatre in Timișoara, Romania.
We are very pleased to welcome them both to the Highfield Priory team and look forward to the wealth of experience they will bring to our school community.
Calling all CULTURE CRUSADERS!
This week, we are excited to launch Culture Crusaders, a new weekly initiative encouraging our children and families to explore the fantastic arts, heritage and cultural experiences available beyond the classroom. Each week, we will set our Culture Crusaders a new place, exhibition or experience to discover. This week we’re starting right here in Preston!
This Week’s Focus: The Big Picture
The Big Picture is a free exhibition currently showing at The Harris in Preston. It brings together a vibrant collection of contemporary work by twelve artists, spanning painting, sculpture and mixed media.
We’re challenging our Highfield Priory Culture Crusaders to do more than simply visit. Take along your sketchbook and pencil case and look carefully at the artists’ use of colour, shape, form, texture and pattern. Which artwork catches your eye? What inspires you? Can you create your own piece of artwork while you’re there?

Join our PTA
Our PTA is an incredibly important and valued part of the Highfield Priory community, bringing families together while helping to make school life even more enjoyable for our children.
Throughout the year, the PTA helps to organise a fantastic variety of events and activities for pupils and families. From seasonal celebrations and special treats for the children, to family events and opportunities to get together, there is always something to look forward to.
Being a member of the PTA is also a great way to meet other parents, make new friends and become more involved in school life. Whether you would like to help organise events, lend a hand occasionally, share new ideas or simply get involved when you can, all levels of support are very welcome. There is no expectation to commit to every event – even a little help can make a big difference.
As well as being lots of fun, the PTA plays an important role in raising additional funds that are used to enhance the experiences and opportunities available to our pupils.
