Why Independent School

A traditional British education is renowned the world over for its rigour and depth.

UK independent schools provide the best possible foundation for each child to thrive, not only academically but across a wide range of areas- such as sports, the creative arts and much more. Independent schools offer a rigorous curriculum designed to challenge students and push each child to fulfil and exceed their potential.

The curriculums followed by most private schools go beyond the UK National Curriculum with additional subjects and a vast range of extra-curricular opportunities such as Sport, Art, Music, Performing Arts and Forest School. Independent schools in the UK provide a level of specialised education that most government funded schools simply can’t compete with. Highfield Priory is one of the leading independent schools in the country, delivering an education that is unmatched in the local area.

Independent school class sizes are usually smaller than State school classes, creating a more intimate setting where each student feels seen and heard, with their individual needs being met. Teachers are able to give personalised feedback and adapt their teaching styles to suit the diverse learning needs within the classroom. This close-knit atmosphere not only nurtures academic excellence but also builds a strong sense of community and belonging among students, laying the foundation for a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

With smaller class sizes and a commitment to personal growth, teachers are able to identify and develop each student’s strengths, interests and areas for improvement. This tailored approach ensures that learning is a positive and fulfilling experience for every student, allowing them to achieve their personal best. The focus on individual growth extends beyond academia, supporting students in their emotional and social development too.

Children are provided with the foundation they need to develop into well-rounded, healthy individuals, equipped with the education and life skills needed to reach their full potential. Leadership programs, public speaking opportunities and mentorship schemes are common features in independent schools, enabling students to navigate adult life with skill and confidence.

At Highfield Priory, our children develop a love of learning from the moment they join. To love to learn is a skill in itself. Like all skills, the earlier it’s nurtured, the stronger it becomes. The children who start with us early don’t just ‘cope’ with secondary school, they thrive in it.
