GOOD LUCK YEAR 6!
We would like to wish all our Year 6 pupils who are sitting their 11+ Grammar School entrance examinations this weekend the very best of luck. We know how hard you have worked to prepare for this examination and we are very proud of the commitment and determination you have shown. We know you will do your very best. Go into the exam with confidence and a good night’s sleep!
We will all be thinking of you and wishing you every success.
Reception Fill the Kindness Jar
There was great excitement in Reception when the children filled up their Kindness Jar!
The children have been working hard to fill the jar through their kind words, thoughtful actions and positive behaviour. They were incredibly proud when all their acts of kindness finally filled it.
A lovely reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference.
The Water Cycle In Year 5
Year 5 have been bringing their learning to life while exploring the water cycle.
Their lesson even included a water cycle song (with a little dancing) to help them remember the different stages! It has been a fun and memorable way to reinforce their classroom learning.
Year 2 Celebrate Alma Thomas Day
Year 2 have been learning about the inspirational artist, Alma Thomas, and marked Alma Thomas Day this week as part of their work. They have enjoyed discovering more about her distinctive, colourful artwork and using this as inspiration for their own creativity.
Leadership Has Landed in Year 6
Year 6 have been exploring how our shared British Values can be embedded within their approach to leadership. This week, they have been looking at how to lead activities safely for other pupils, considering the responsibilities that come with being a leader, including the all-important risk assessments!
It is wonderful to witness our oldest pupils developing the skills and confidence to become positive role models within their community.
Early Years
Preschool Marks Recycling Week
Preschool have been busy learning all about recycling. The children explored different materials and discussed how they can be recycled or reused. They looked closely at recycling symbols and talked about why recycling is so important for looking after our planet.
They were particularly fascinated to discover that the soft flooring in our playground is made from recycled tyres! They even came up with some fantastic ideas about how we can all help to care for our environment.
Learning Continues At Home
We love seeing our children take their enthusiasm for learning home with them.
Bowie recently took home the Baking Home Learning Bag which involved: planning what was needed, writing a shopping list, buying the ingredients and, of course, getting busy in the kitchen!
It is a lovely way for children to develop independence and practical skills while enjoying learning beyond the classroom.
Storytime In Forest School
Our younger children have also been making the most of learning outdoors, enjoying a very special story time together around the fire pit in Forest School. Experiences like these are a wonderful part of Early Years life at Highfield Priory, giving the children opportunities to enjoy stories, explore their surroundings and make special memories together.
Sport
Football
As the girls were playing Netball, our Year 4, 5 & 6 boys made the trip to Rossall School to play their first game of the season. Out on the grass pitches in the sunshine, the boys were able to use their newly learnt tactics for the first time against some tough Rossall sides. They grew in confidence throughout the afternoon and by the end of the matches, the link up play had improved significantly and the goals had started to flow. The following day we played against Blessed Sacrament in the Harold Slater Cup. Our footballers had a fantastic time on both Wednesday and Thursday and are looking forward to our upcoming fixtures.
Netball
Our first Netball match of the year was against Rossall School and, even though it was tough, we enjoyed playing in a match and practising what we have learnt in training. Some of us have never played a match before and we loved it! We supported, encouraged and cheered each other on. It was a team effort and practice makes perfect so we are very excited for our next match.
