A Showstopping Performance of Viking Thunder
Our recent Year 5 and Year 3 production of Viking Thunder was a fantastic success, taking us on an exciting journey through a world of Vikings, gods and goblins. The story followed a series of adventurous quests, keeping the audience thoroughly entertained, with a memorable twist as the day was saved when the wolf ate the sleep-potion-soaked-honey-cakes, bringing a happy ending for all.
Year 5 truly dominated the stage, performing with confidence and projecting their voices beautifully throughout. Their energy and stage presence brought the characters and story vividly to life.
Year 3 played an equally important role, guiding us through the storyline with fascinating facts about the characters and teaching us all about Viking life. Their contributions added depth and learning to the performance, making it both entertaining and educational.
We are incredibly proud of all the children involved for their hard work, teamwork and enthusiasm. A big thank you also goes to Mrs Jones, Ms Harrison and all the staff who supported; what a brilliant production!
A Wonderful Day of Learning at Blackpool Zoo for Year 1
Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic class trip to Blackpool Zoo where they spent the day exploring and learning about a wide range of animals from around the world. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to bring the children’s learning to life, as they discovered different species and learned more about the natural world. From observing animals up close to asking thoughtful questions, the children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a truly immersive experience, helping the children to understand wildlife and conservation. The children represented the school beautifully and it was a pleasure to see them so engaged in their learning outside the classroom.
Exploring Texture and Tone in Year 6 Art
Year 6 dazzles us with its drawing skills as it explores key artistic elements, focusing on shape, line, tone and texture. The children have been creating detailed preliminary studies of pebbles with careful observation and attention to detail.
If this is the standard of their early sketches, we are very excited to see how their final watercolour paintings will develop!
Our Celebration Assembly
This morning, we held a wonderful Celebration Assembly, bringing the whole school together to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our pupils. These assemblies are a special part of our school life, giving children the opportunity to share their successes from beyond the classroom. Many pupils proudly brought in certificates, badges and awards earned through their clubs and activities, and it was a joy to hear about their hard work and dedication. Each contribution reflected the commitment and enthusiasm our children show in all that they do. It was lovely to see their confidence as they shared what they had accomplished and what it meant to them.
We are very proud of all the children who took part and for the effort they continue to show both in and out of school.
Planning Adventures Around the World in Year 5
Year 5 has been happily anticipating the summer holidays by planning an exciting ‘round the world’ trip with a friend. This engaging activity has brought together their Geography lessons on mapping with their recent computing work on using and understanding databases. Alongside these key skills, the children have shown great imagination as they designed their journeys and explored destinations across the globe.
It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm and creativity, with pupils making meaningful connections across different areas of the curriculum.
Creative Clay Waterlilies in Year 2
Year 2 has been busy in Art creating beautiful clay waterlilies inspired by the work of Claude Monet.
Building on skills developed in Year 1, the children revisited techniques such as rolling, cutting and drawing into clay. They then extended their learning by exploring how to join and assemble pieces to create their final sculptures.
The results are truly stunning, with each piece showing great care, creativity and attention to detail. It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged and proud of their work.

Spring Smiles in Nursery and Preschool
Our Nursery and Preschool children thoroughly enjoyed their moment in the spotlight during their recent spring photo shoot. Looking so grown up, they were full of confidence with bright, beaming smiles that truly captured their personalities. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to shine and celebrate this special stage in their journey. We hope families were delighted with the finished photographs and will treasure them for years to come.
Recognising Excellence in Early Years Practice
We are proud to share some fantastic news from our Early Years provision. Following a recent visit from Active Lancashire, where research was carried out into Early Years physical development, our Nursery, Preschool and Forest School provision were all observed in action. The visit highlighted the wide range of opportunities we provide to support children’s physical development in engaging and meaningful ways.
We are delighted to have been recognised by Lancashire County Council for our exemplary practice. This is a wonderful achievement and reflects the dedication, expertise and care shown by our Early Years team every day.
Providing high quality opportunities for physical development is a key part of our curriculum, and it is fantastic to see this being acknowledged on a wider level.

Preschool Sports Morning
What a fantastic Preschool Sports Morning we had this week! The children had so much fun taking part in a range of races and obstacle courses, showing great energy and plenty of smiles throughout the morning. It was wonderful to see so many proud families cheering them on and celebrating each achievement. Every child received a well-deserved medal at the end; a lovely way to recognise their effort and enthusiasm.
We are already looking forward to our Infant Sports Morning on Wednesday, 20th May.
Years 4 and 6 Kwik Cricket V Scarisbrick Hall
Congratulations to all our Year 4 and 6 pupils who took part in four separate Kwik Cricket matches against Scarisbrick Hall School. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to play competitive matches and put into action what they had been practising in school. All the matches were closely contested, with honours even by the end of the afternoon. Thank you to Scarisbrick Hall School for hosting us. We now look forward to our Years 5 and 6 fixture against AKS in a couple of weeks.
Staff News
Mrs Burrows left Highfield Priory on Thursday after 11 years of service. We would like to thank her for her dedication and caring approach which has given so many children a wonderful start to their time at Highfield. We wish her all the best in her new career with the NHS.
Good Luck in Your NCTs, Year 6!
As NCT week approaches, we would like to wish all of our Year 6 pupils the very best of luck.
They have worked incredibly hard in the lead up to these assessments, showing determination, resilience and a positive attitude towards their learning. All of their preparation and effort will stand them in good stead for a successful week. We are very proud of everything they have achieved so far and know they will approach the week with confidence.

Celebrating a Special CBeebies Appearance
We are delighted to share some exciting news about one of our pupils.
Naiya recently appeared on CBeebies in a special episode of Dodge and the Baby Animals. This is a wonderful achievement and a very special experience for her.
Naiya is looking forward to sharing the episode with her classmates.

Celebrating Musical Talent Beyond the Classroom
Reyansh recently showcased his musical talent at the Let’s Grow Spring Fair, where he performed Dhol drumming. His performance was clearly a highlight of the event and has even been featured in the Lancashire Evening Post, a fantastic achievement and a real testament to his dedication and skill.
It is always inspiring to see our pupils sharing their talents beyond the classroom and representing the school with such confidence. Reyansh’s performance is a lovely example of how music can bring energy and joy to a wider community.
We would like to thank his class teacher, Ms Wakefield, and his music teacher, Mrs Harrison, for their continued support and encouragement.
